Committee Description:
The Member Constituencies Committee was established to ensure cultural competence in regard to serving and educating patients and members; to promote enfranchisement of patients and physicians in specific member populations; to foster leadership and mentoring opportunities among specific member populations; to promote inclusivity within the USAFP by increasing representation of specific member population views and interests; and to address issues of current and emerging specific member populations. The committee is charged with encouraging members of member constituencies to join the USAFP and to participate in USAFP activities.
Specific Member Constituencies:
New Physician Priorities
- Foster academy interest and participation by new physician members
- Help develop New Physician Guide for Involvement in the USAFP
- Help develop a Welcome to the USAFP Annual Meeting – A Guide for First-Time Attendees
Women’s Priorities
- Ensure focus on women’s health issues in Annual Meeting topics and in newsletter articles
- Promote the development of women in leadership positions
- Ensure focus is placed on the unique issues of women in the workplace
Minority Priorities
- Ensure focus on minority health issues in Annual Meeting topics and in newsletter articles
- Promote the recruitment and retention of minority USAFP members
- Promote increased minority and underserved representation in uniformed family medicine activities
- Provide articles for the USAFP newsletter
LGBT Priorities
- Ensure focus on LGBT health issues in the Annual Meeting topics and in the newsletter articles
- Promote the recruitment and retention of LGBT USAFP members
- Promote increased LGBT representation in uniformed services family medicine activities
International Medical Graduate (IMG) Priorities
- Promote the recruitment and retention of International Medical Graduates in USAFP
- Ensure representation of unique issues of IMG members
